Brandon Jennings is a crafty southpaw playmaker who can score and facilitate at levels that bordered on star-caliber. He flirted with being an All-Star on more than one occasion, and was changing the public’s perception with the Detroit Pistons in 2014-15.

The question is, has the torn achilles tendon Jennings suffered a season ago permanently limited his capabilities?

Jennings, who boasts career averages of 15.7 points and 5.9 assists, has struggled in 2015-16. There’s not much surprise in the fact that he isn’t playing up to his normal level, as he’s only recently returned from one of the most traumatic injuries in sports.

Thus, evaluating Jennings goes deeper than numbers and consistency in his production.

Determining whether or not Jennings can contribute for New York in 2016-17 will depend upon a study of the comfortability with which he moves. If he shows progressive improvement in the way he moves and his body holds up, he could be worth signing.

Jennings has already made intriguing progress, but the way he closes out the season will be key.
