Phil Jackson Discusses Carmelo Anthony, Future of the Knicks
Who’s The Next Head Coach?
The No. 1 question on the New York sports scene is one that will forever alter the trajectory of the New York Knicks. It’s not about Carmelo Anthony’s knee or Kristaps Porzingis’ playing time, but instead about the man or woman who will roam the sidelines in seasons to come.
Everyone wants to know the answer, and no one seems to have it; who will be the next head coach of the Knicks?
Many have speculated—Daily Knicks has articles about the most likely and most creative options to fill the void—but no one has attained a definitive answer. Jackson didn’t help much in that regard, but he made one thing clear: Kurt Rambis isn’t limited to the interim tag.
According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, Jackson isn’t against the idea of Rambis coaching the Knicks long-term.
Jackson went on to state that he speaks with Rambis on a more consistent basis than he did with Fisher.
Rambis currently has the interim label, but most expect the Knicks to sign someone else to the permanent position. Should we be?
Rambis held a career record of 56-145 before beginning his interim tenure with the New York Knicks. His most successful term was in 1998-99, when he helped Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant lead the Los Angeles Lakers to the Western Conference Semifinals.
To be clear, Jackson is not saying that Rambis is the favorite for the job.
The Zen Master is simply doing what he does best: keeping us in the dark, captivating our imaginations, and keeping all of his options open.
