Plans in Free Agency

The 2016 period of NBA free agency will play home to four-time scoring champion Kevin Durant and four-time MVP LeBron James. It’s also expected to house respected players such as Mike Conley, DeMar DeRozan, Al Horford, and Chandler Parsons.

The question of the hour is a big one: who does Phil Jackson plan to target this coming summer?

Jackson didn’t reveal the specifics of what he’s going to do, and with good reason. He’s been accused of tampering in the past—one that followed his praising former Ohio State Buckeyes star and current Los Angeles Lakers rookie D’Angelo Russell.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Jackson did reveal one important detail: the roster will look very different in 2016-17.

The Zen Master appears to be more focused on building a solid rotation than he does signing a high-cost free agent.

Having a complete and well-rounded team would be a refreshing sight for Knicks fans after the events of the past three seasons. The 54-win squad of 2012-13 has become a distant memory, as New York has since won 37 games in 2013-14, 17 games in 2014-15, and is 27-39 in 2015-16.

If Jackson is able to fill out the 2016-17 roster with high-quality players, Carmelo Anthony should be able to lead the Knicks back to the playoffs.
