Since losing Blake Griffin to a partially torn left quad tendon on Christmas Day, the Los Angeles Clippers have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA. Behind the efforts of nine-time All-Star Chris Paul, Los Angeles is 18-5 since that fateful date.

While the odds of a trade may have decreased in likelihood, Jamal Crawford was singled out as available by multiple reporters, including Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, earlier this season.

"The Clippers have also been open to trading guard Jamal Crawford since the offseason, sources told Yahoo."

The question is, can Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks convince Doc Rivers to part ways with the two-time Sixth Man of the Year?

Spears wasn’t the only reporter to take note of Crawford’s availability; Marc Stein of ESPN and Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops relayed the same information in separate releases. Frank Isola of The New York Daily News broke the news that the Knicks were attempting to trade for Crawford in August of 2015.

That vision never came to fruition, but for a Knicks team that ranks No. 23 in scoring offense, trading for Crawford would be a solid idea.

New York wins when Arron Afflalo plays well, but that’s primarily due to the fact that they don’t have a viable backup at the 2. Langston Galloway is stuck between the 1 and the 2, and appears to be better suited for the role of a Triangle Offense point guard—an off-ball player who’s responsible with the ball in his hands and consistently steps up in the clutch.

As an isolation specialist who can score from all over the floor, Crawford could be the missing piece as New York prepares for an uphill run to the postseason.
