The 2014-15 Atlanta Hawks sent four players to the All-Star Game. One of those contributors was point guard Jeff Teague, who has emerged as one of the better athletes and all-around players at his position.

According to Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports, the Hawks have made Teague available for trade discussions just one season removed from his first career All-Star Game appearance.

Per Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the New York Knicks have been linked to Teague as a potential destination for the 27-year-old point guard.

It’s been quiet since the late January report, but that’s generally how these things work.

With the trade deadline now approaching, the sense of urgency to get a deal done is certain to increase. Phil Jackson must recognize how erratic the Knicks’ play has been at point guard, and Teague is nothing if not a smart investment.

With Jose Calderon already set to provide a cap hit of roughly $8 million in 2016-17, New York must do what it can to trade the veteran and replace him with a younger alternative.

Teague does a bit of everything, which makes him the perfect fit for the Triangle Offense. He’s a solid facilitator, a lethal dribble-penetrator, a lightning-quick athlete, and an efficient shooter who’s converting more than 40 percent of his 3-point field goals in 2015-16.

Proven to be selfless and of a team-first mentality, Teague could be the missing piece in the Knicks’ pursuit of the 2016 NBA Playoffs.
