1. Phil Jackson

We’re all thinking it, so let’s not play ignorant to the fact that it’s possible, feasible, and needed. Phil Jackson has a relatively young team on his hands, and that means a great coach is needed to push the team towards championship contention.

Jackson has long contested that he’s looking to set New York down a winning path before eventually departing, and there’s no better way for him to do so than as head coach.

Clearly, Jackson isn’t the most likely of men to take over as head honcho. He’s far removed from the coaching world, and although it would be wonderful to see him back on the sidelines, there’s no a guaranteeing that he’d be interested in doing so.

One simply can’t help but wonder if Jackson will pull a Pat Riley, who famously replaced Stan Van Gundy and led the Miami Heat to a championship in 2005-06.

The Knicks don’t exactly have a combination of Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal. What they do have, however, is a committed star in Carmelo Anthony, a tantalizing young player in Kristaps Porzingis, and a group of players who were acquired by Jackson himself.

More knicks: Mike Conley is considering the New York Knicks as a free agency destination in 2016

Whether or not Jackson coaches long enough to add a 12th championship to his tally, he can at least push New York in the right direction until a replacement is hired this coming offseason.
