4. Brian Shaw

The general consensus around the NBA is that Brian Shaw got the short end of the stick with the Denver Nuggets. The team had just fired beloved head coach George Karl, and the players never seemed to recover enough from his departure to give Shaw a fair chance.

Having spent time as both a player and an assistant coach under Jackson, it stands to reason that Shaw will be a top candidate in the coaching search.

Shaw won three NBA championships as a player under Jackson, playing crucial minutes from 1999 to 2003. He then joined Jackson’s staff in 2005, winning two more rings as an assistant coach in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Shaw also had a successful stint with the Indiana Pacers from 2011 to 2013, winning his players’ trust and admiration as an assistant to Frank Vogel.

Most share the belief that it’s only a matter of time before Shaw gets another chance to coach in the NBA. He’s far better than the results in Denver showed, and there’s only so much one can do to verify the Nuggets’ failures as an indictment of his coaching ability and potential.

Shaw is going to be a coach again, and Jackson is the most likely man to deliver him that well-deserved opportunity.
