Magic Johnson

One of the most outspoken legends in the modern era is former Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson. He utilizes social media as a tool to evaluate the game he loves, and isn’t afraid to voice opinions that may go against the grain.

One of Johnson’s more memorable recent outbursts was directed towards New York Knicks fans.

The story has been told 1,000 times; Knicks fans booed Kristaps Porzingis when he was selected at the 2015 NBA Draft. In the months that have followed, however, the basketball community has learned to appreciate and admire the 20-year-old rookie.

In Johnson’s eyes, he was the steal of the draft.

It’s hard to call the No. 4 overall selection a steal, but it’s a relatively fair point.

Porzingis has overachieved in the eyes of many; including those within the organization. While most expected him to take three-to-five seasons to adjust to the Association, the 7’3″ power forward has emerged as one of the most NBA-ready rookies in a very solid draft class.

As Johnson stated, Knicks fans should be applauding Phil Jackson for his scouting ability.
