Kristaps Porzingis

Kristaps Porzingis’s hype train is a unique blend of immeasurable praise and unwavering doubt. He’s been compared to Pau Gasol and Dirk Nowitzki, as well as Darko Milicic and Jan Vesely.

While he may not exceed the unbelievable—and, potentially, unrealistic—expectations of reaching his superstar potential, Porzingis will prove to be a more complete player than many expect him to be.

As it presently stands, the hype about Porzingis is based entirely in upside. He’s a 7’3″ power forward with the size and length to be a matchup nightmare on both ends of the floor.

What many tend to overlook is just how strong other facets of his game are besides his shooting.

Porzingis’ greatest strength is his jump shot—specifically a combination of its accuracy and the height and angle from which it’s released. He’s also competent in the post, displays good timing as a shot-blocker and shuffles his feet well on defense for a player of his size.

Porzingis will have a very tough time living up to the general expectations, but he’ll prove to be a much more complete player than the, “Tall shooter,” crowd gives him credit for.
