Surprisingly Polished Offense
He probably won’t start next season, and he may or may not receive significant minutes off the bench. If what he displayed in Summer League even partially translates into the NBA, however, Kristaps Porzingis may be more ready for the big time than any of us could have imagined.
On offense, Porzingis sports a surprisingly polished game.
His silky smooth jump shot almost looks out of place on a player with a frame of his size, and he’s equally comfortable putting the ball on the floor to attack the rim.
A lack of muscle makes it difficult for him to seriously battle down low, yet his impressive array of post moves and ability to finish with both hands means he can eventually develop into a lethal post player should he bulk up.
Additionally, his court vision and mobility complete a unique skill set.
At 7’3″, most would expect Porzingis to spend a majority of the time either on the block or at the high post. This, however, could not be further from the truth. Porzingis is equally comfortable on the wing or in transition, and has both the athleticism and vision to be incredibly effective on the break.
It seems offensively, there’s little he won’t be able to do should he even come close to achieving his potential. He’s an increasingly tantalizing prospect for Phil Jackson and the Knicks hierarchy.
