4: Not Much Has Changed With Galloway
This has its pros and its cons. Last season was a minor breakout year for Langston Galloway, the unheralded former St. Joe’s guard. That he could prove his ability to score at the highest level was a positive in a season marked by seemingly endless negatives. Galloway has continued to showcase his driving, finishing and shooting prowess in the Summer League.
But Galloway is 6’2”. This is small for any player on an NBA court, but particularly small for any player not running the point. And Galloway has always looked more like a two-guard.
Last season, Galloway averaged 3.3 dishes in 32 minutes. In the 2015 Summer League, he’s averaging 2.0 assists in over 31 minutes. Not exactly point guard appropriate numbers – especially on a 2015-16 team that will likely have no one other than Carmelo who can create his own shot.
The triangle offense doesn’t always rely on sharp assists from its point guards to create open looks, and that could benefit Galloway in his role for the Knicks. Then again, the Knicks might not be relying on the triangle as often as anticipated.
Galloway is undoubtedly an NBA-caliber role player, and the Summer League has been another reminder of that. His role with the Knicks, however, is more doubtful.
