Once upon a time, Rajon Rondo was the No. 1 target amongst New York Knicks fans. Injuries and inefficiency have changed that for some, but the interest remains strong and legitimate.
For what it’s worth, Knicks fans accurately predicted the future:
Sigh.
In all seriousness, Rondo is one of the greatest facilitators in NBA history. He sees plays develop before they happen, and while some may think he’s over dribbling, his every move is intended to open his teammates up.
More times than not, it works out. Thus, his status as a four-time All-Star and two-time assists leader.
The concern with Rondo is that, nine years in, he’s still one of the worst shooters in the NBA. He’s shooting a more respectable 32.3 percent from beyond the arc, but is also converting at a clip of 31.6 percent from the free throw line.
That’s not bad; it’s atrocious.
Due to his struggles as a shooter, Rondo might not fit the triangle offense. Some maintain that the system is versatile, which it is, but guards who can at least convert from mid-range are vital.
Regardless of how you feel about him, Rondo will inevitably be a target or the Mavericks.
