New Orleans Pelicans
The last team that can possibly be a good fit for Calderon is the New Orleans Pelicans. While the Pelicans are not on the list of title contenders, New Orleans is only one game out of the eighth and final Playoff spot. With a future MVP in Anthony Davis, it may be time to make a push to make the postseason and gain some valuable Playoff experience. Calderon could also be a mentor to a New Orleans team that has an average of 4.43 year experience in the League, in particular, taking Jrue Holiday under his tutelage.
Jose Calderon may have his warts on defense, but has always been a reliable shooter. In today’s NBA where three-point shooting and, drive and kicks are the preferred offense, Calderon’s elite shooting is indispensable. Along with his nine years in the League, providing veteran leadership in a position that is essentially the head coach on the floor, Calderon has intangible positive effects that cannot be measured. Calderon could be the final missing piece to fill a point guard void on the bench of a Championship contending team, but will any team be willing to pay the hefty price of $15,111,239 that remains on his contract.
