Andrea Bargnani: 2013-14 Season Review and Analysis

Best Moment of The Season: 

As terrible as Bargs was in (approximately) 95% of his game facets, I went bonkers when he smothered Dwight Howard, blocking him twice throughout the game. It was hard not to go bonkers at something that happens once in a blue moon, maybe even rarer than that (you still stink).

Worst Moment of The Season:

A few years back, every once in awhile, when I woke up at around 4:00 in the morning, I would see commercials for compilation albums, particularly the soft rock one with the guys from “Air Supply” being cheesier than ever. Can someone create a “Andrea Bargnani’s greatest hits…and misses” 2013-14 season compilation, with the smash hit single entitled “I Don’t Know How To Play Basketball?”

There’s not one definitive Bargs moment that can be penned as the worst of the season. I can’t even begin to tell you how many defensive blunders occurred throughout this season. For Bargs not to do something stupid in a game would’ve been unbelievable.

I thought Ricky Davis and Andray Blatche’s failed attempts at getting triple-doubles were some hilariously bad moments, BUT AIR BARGS. The dunk attempt that left him donned in suits for the rest of the season will forever live in infamy. But, if you ever have a bad day, you can rely on the attempt set to “I Believe I Can Fly” to alleviate your sadness or anger (actually, the anger may come back if you’re a Knick fan).

Also, Bargs made Walt Frazier blow his gasket, which was something very unwonted when he went full bonehead by hoisting that three with the shot clock off against the Bucks.

One last thing: Here’s the infamous Berman of The Post “TAKE THAT MASAI UJIRI” tweet that became a Knicks Twitter meme of the year candidate.

Future:

As if the bleeding wasn’t excessive enough, Bargs is still with the Knicks for another year. He’s due $11.5 million on his remaining, expiring deal that he signed with Toronto and is still a, as Mike Woodson said in every other press conference, “big piece of the puzzle” (broken puzzle)? Now that Woodson is gone with his press conference faux pas, Phil Jackson is going to have to get rid of this big bowl of fettuccine alfredo whenever he can. He’s clearly demonstrated his inability to do anything outside of playing decent post defense. At this point, he shouldn’t have a future with any team.

Overall Grade: D-

The trade did not bode well at all for the Knicks, but it did for the Raptors, as they won the Atlantic Division and are in the midst of an intense playoff series against the Nets. What was just as bad as the trade itself was Bargnani’s struggle to perform consistently with his counterparts and his copious amount of blunders on both ends of the floor, as well as Mike Woodson’s maladministration on where and when to play him. Bargnani is not the main reason why the Knicks took a nosedive, but he was a part of a deluge of reasons why the Knicks jumped into a pitfall. The trade would’ve been fine if the first round pick wasn’t included, but remember guys and gals, it’s the Knicks and anything trumps logic. All things considered, a D- is pretty feasible.
