A Letter to Santa from New York Knicks fans
By Phil DeMeo
Dear Santa,
I don’t ask for much, I really don’t. I am a humble guy who enjoys a good time with good people, delicious food and drinks, and watching sports. As a New Yorker, I have to say for the first 21 years of my life, the New York sports scene has treated me quite well. I have been spoiled with the Yankees, seen two Super Bowl wins over the hated Patriots, and grew up with the glory days of Jason Kidd and the Nets.

One thing I have never seen is my beloved New York Knicks be a normal sports franchise. The Knicks teased us last season and have fallen back to their dismal ways. Now Santa I’m not going to ask for much or unrealistic things, but my Knicks can use some gifts. I know Madison Square Garden isn’t getting LeBron under their tree, but here’s some things they need:
An actual Point Guard: When you have players like Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith who LOVE to shoot, you at least need somebody to be the floor manager. You know how upsetting it is to watch other teams play that have an actual point guard? Every good team has a smart and talented point guard running the team. We have Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni, who are both hurt.
Legit Sidekick for Carmelo: LeBron-Wade. Durant-Westbrook. Paul-Griffin. Harden-Howard. Lillard-Aldridge. George-Hibbert. Carmelo—–Smith? Carmelo gets the blame for not winning but he has never had a Robin on his team. Analysts say maybe he’s just not “Batman” material, but what’s Batman without Robin? Names like Rondo, Love, and other potential free agents are always going to be linked to the Knicks but that’s just made up speculation. Carmelo needs help but Carmelo might not even stay. Why would he want to play for James Dolan and the Knicks? Why would anyone?
A New Owner: The James Dolan era has been a crap show. Any company, especially a sports franchise, can’t expect to be successful if there’s not continuity from top-to-bottom. Besides the horrible contracts that set back the Knicks for years, the crazy things that come out of the Knicks only happens to them. Seriously, the name Isiah Thomas still gets thrown around as a comeback. HE WAS TERRIBLE but Dolan thinks it could have and should have worked. They traded their draft picks for the next decade so all this losing doesn’t even have one little bright spot. When you know there are basketball teams ran like the Spurs, Thunder, Heat, and Pacers, you just get pissed because you know what happens when a franchise is ran correctly.
Knees for Amar’e: Amar’e Stoudemire doesn’t deserve what his knees are doing to him. He was the first one to WANT to come to New York but all those run-and-gun games in Phoenix finally caught up to him. I know these days of Amar’e are basically done, but in a perfect world Knicks fans wish Amar’e could be able to play like he did early in Knick days.
One-Year Deal for J.R. Smith: Smith’s career and game is as inconsistent as it comes. He should get paid on a year-by-year basis. Having to commit to him for more than one year is a mind boggler.
We don’t ask for much, right Santa?
From,
The disgruntled but loyal Knicks fans
