Throughout his illustrious 13-year career, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has been as heavily scrutinized as any star in the NBA. No matter what he’s done or how he’s done it, his critics have surfaced to downplay his efforts.

As the 2016-17 NBA regular season nears, Anthony’s critics have dwindled under the light of his emergence as a leader.

Both in the basketball realm and on the political front, Anthony has been active and vocal. He’s made a conscious effort to raise the country’s awareness of social and criminal injustices, and has been instrumental in the development of New York’s young players.

Whether it’s in the locker room, on the court, or on a social or political stage, Anthony’s voice has been heard.

Yet, despite his progress as a leader, Anthony has been unfairly criticized. Regardless of what transpired earlier in his career, he’s made enough progress in recent years to warrant the praise he doesn’t receive.

It’s time to praise the Knicks’ captain and leader: Carmelo Anthony.
