2 former champions Knicks should consider adding in buyout market
EDITOR’S NOTE: Bryn Forbes, who is one of the players elaborated upon in this article, was arrested on Wednesday, hours after this article was published, for allegedly assaulting a woman. He should no longer be considered a buyout option for the Knicks due to the serious nature of the allegations.
1: Bryn Forbes – Minnesota
Do the Knicks need another guard, especially after acquiring Josh Hart? Not necessarily, but because Bryn Forbes can shoot the ball, he’s a buyout candidate that New York must consider.
Forbes’ career started with the Spurs in 2016 and since then he’s hopped around to the Bucks, back to the Spurs, the Nuggets, and the Timberwolves. The 29-year-old was waived by Minnesota on Thursday and appeared in only 25 games this season, averaging 3.6 points. His best season came with San Antonio in 2018-19 when he averaged a career-high 11.8 points on 45.6% shooting from the floor and 42.6% shooting from three.
His stint with the Timberwolves didn’t go as hoped, but Forbes is a career 41% three-point shooter. With the Knicks no longer being able to rely on Evan Fournier, Forbes could be an option to come off the bench.
Similar to Ibaka, Forbes is an NBA champion. He averaged 10 points and shot 47.3% from the field and 45.2% from three in 70 games with the Bucks in 2020-21. With Terrence Ross agreeing to a buyout and planning to sign with the Suns, Forbes is a shooter that New York needs to consider. Maybe he’ll be able to land on two feet wherever he ends up next.
