1: Kyrie Irving (player option)

Don’t laugh. After passing on the Knicks in favor of the Nets in 2019, Irving could switch boroughs this summer. Should New York be interested in him? Absolutely not.

First and foremost, Irving would be silly to not want to stay with Kevin Durant in Brooklyn, even after the team’s embarrassing first-round sweep against Boston. If he doesn’t opt into his player option, he’ll be eligible to sign a five-year, $247.6 million contract with the Nets.

The point guard’s said that he wants to remain in Brooklyn, but remember when he stood in front of the Celtics fans in TD Garden and said that he’d be back in Boston? Shortly after, he signed with the Nets.

Irving’s talent can’t be denied, but the last thing that the Knicks need to do is break the bank to sign an unreliable player. If it wasn’t for him missing the first part of Brooklyn’s season and then being a part-time player due to his vaccine status, the Nets might’ve been more prepared for the postseason.

If for whatever reason the 30-year-old decides that he’d rather be somewhere else other than Brooklyn, New York’s front office should do absolutely nothing. Irving isn’t worth the gamble or the Knicks’ money.

Verdict: Hard pass
