NY Knicks Under-The-Radar Target #1 – Devin Vassell

I have wanted Devin Vassell to be a Knick since the Knicks landed at the 8th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery.

The 20-year-old wing shoots 35% from three, can play excellent defense, and is basically the perfect replacement for Reggie Bullock, although we here at Daily Knicks hope he’s retained.

Vassell only played 17 minutes per game, as the Spurs have an abundance of wings and forwards.

The Knicks could develop Vassell into a terrific 3&D player to put aside RJ Barrett for the long run.

Barrett is more of an on-ball player, and I will continue to say it, so giving him a guy who is an excellent off-ball player as a running mate on the other wing is perfect.

Barrett is a good defender himself who, from age 19 to 20, went from a below-average shooter to a 40% shooter from 3.

Vassell and Barrett could give a rare mix of two wings who are both very good shooters and defenders, while RJ also continues to develop his on-ball game that he’s shown many flashes of.

With the amount of defensive potential Vassell has shown in limited minutes in his first NBA season, the Knicks should target him.

Since he was a lottery pick in 2021, it will probably cost one of the Knicks first-rounders and another asset.

However, his fit with the team for the long run would make the trade worth it.
