New York Knicks: Kristaps Porzingis’ struggle in Dallas

Despite averaging an impressive 17.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 36% from three, things fizzled out when Porzingis became frustrated with the Knicks’ front office, demanded a trade, and was subsequently shipped to Dallas.

However, the former 4th overall pick has largely disappointed during his time with the Mavericks. Despite the opportunity to complement one of the league’s best young stars in Luka Doncic, the oft-injured and underperforming Porzingis has failed to gel with his current franchise.

Recent reports confirm what many NBA fans have expected: the Unicorn appears to be back on the trade block.

The NYC

All this chaos begs one key question for the Knicks: Is a reunion with Porzingis worth consideration. This avenue is a long shot. I admit that on the front end. It’s assuredly most realistic that both parties will pursue other options.

However, there are a few reasons why Kristaps reuniting with the team that drafted him could be mutually beneficial. First and foremost, the former star enjoyed his peak seasons in New York. His best season and long All-Star appearance came during his final season in New York.

Some players wilt under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden and NYC. Many are more comfortable in smaller markets with less scrutiny. Porgingis has already proven he can handle the load.

Now that Thidedeau and Leon Rose have provided some organizational stability (the lack of which was a frustrating point during Porzingis’ previous stint), it seems an especially good time to consider the possible union.
