NY Knicks: 76ers are in win-now mode

As mentioned in my article “The 3 Best trade offers for Evan Fournier”, the Sixers are legitimate contenders for the NBA title. They are probably smelling blood now that LeBron James is hurt and out indefinitely, joining Anthony Davison on the shelf. After suffering through the “Trust the Process” years and then seeing the team take a step back last season after Jimmy Butler left unexpectedly. The Sixers have bounced back this season thanks to Daryl Morey’s personnel moves and Doc Rivers’ coaching.

While the Sixers are an elite defensive team, this is still an offensive league, so they need to find more firepower. Philly needs another ballhandling playmaker to ignite their offense. Ben Simmons can get downhill, but scoring is not his game. Joel Embiid needs help closing games by having someone that can create a shot when the offense gets bogged down. That is why the Sixers will be in discussions for every marquee wing on the market.

The 76ers have reason to believe that Oladipo would resign with them. Philadelphia is a big market team that plays not too far from Oladipo’s hometown in Maryland. They have star players, a respected coach and front office, as well as an ownership group that will spend money. Below is what I believe will be the 76ers best offer for Olapido.

This trade offer is similar to the one proposed for Evan Fournier except Tony Bradley replaces Furkan Korkmaz as the Rockets need more size than shooting. Danny Green is included since he is on an expiring contract. Rockets could also flip Green before the deadline for additional assets. Houston also gets a promising guard in Isiah Joe, the rookie out of Arkansas has shown he can play, but is buried on the depth chart of a good team.

The true value will be the 1st round pick in this year’s draft. With this trade, the Rockets will end up with four 1st round picks in a deep draft. There is a good chance they lose draft position even though their 1st has a top 4 protection from a swap with OKC. They currently have the 2nd worst record in the NBA which leaves them with a 47.9% chance of picking outside the top 4.

If that happens they will end up with Miami’s 1st round pick. If Portland makes the playoffs, then their 1st round pick goes to Houston. They also have Milwaukee’s 1st due to a pick swap from the P.J. Tucker trade. So Houston will have the following picks: Portland, Milwaukee, Philly’s, then either a top 4 or Miami’s. The value of Philly’s pick is that it gives Houston more ammo to move up in the draft or to trade picks for veteran players.

As for Morey, he has never valued draft picks or drafted well. So with the team being in win-now mode, he will gladly part with picks for a star player.
