Pro: Postseason Experience

DeMar DeRozan has pieced together a more than respectable career. He’s a two-time All-NBA honoree and four-time All-Star, as well as a postseason veteran who has 58 games of experience under the bright lights of the NBA Playoffs.

That includes 2016, when he and Kyle Lowry led the Toronto Raptors to 56 wins and the first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in franchise history.

There have long been debates pertaining to DeRozan’s value to a winning team, but he’s proven in the past that he can be the No. 1 scoring option for a 50-win unit. It appears as though he’s no longer happy in San Antonio, but he deserves credit for helping it reach the postseason in 2018-19.

A player simply doesn’t score that many points on that many playoff teams without knowing something about helping a team win in the regular season.

For a New York Knicks team that hasn’t been to the postseason since 2013, that’s an appealing truth. DeRozan may or may not be the leader that the locker room needs, but he certainly knows how to execute down the stretch of tough games.

That would alleviate a great deal of pressure from the younger players on the roster. It could also be the piece that the Knicks need to make the leap to eight-seed status.
