The New York Knicks will finally return home from a long trip out west. A look at the odds and injuries for their game against the Atlanta Hawks.
On Tuesday, Dec. 17, the New York Knicks will finally return home after a long trip out west. They will face the Atlanta Hawks, a fellow Eastern Conference team that sits near the bottom of the NBA standings. That doesn’t mean nothing is on the line, but it’s more of a way-too-early battle for lottery positioning.
The Knicks played a competitive slate of games on their road trip, featuring their first winning streak of the season. Victories over the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors pushed them in the right direction, and they even overcame a deficit against the Denver Nuggets in the difficult altitude of the Rocky Mountains.
Now, interim coach Mike Miller‘s team can settle in at home for one game, before jumping to Miami for an away matchup with the Heat.
A side story to watch for is Dennis Smith Jr.’s role. Since returning from an illness, the third-year guard has yet to play while Frank Ntilikina and Elfrid Payton consume the point guard minutes. Given how the latter two have played, there’s no telling when Smith Jr. returns to the rotation.
These point guards must contain Atlanta’s Trae Young, who is tracking towards an All-Star spot in February and other accolades at season’s end. He is one of the game’s top scoring guards and someone who will play effectively more often than not.
Knicks odds against Hawks
Favorite: -1.5 Knicks/+1.5 Hawks

Surprisingly, the Knicks are actually favored to win a game. It’s a slight point in their direction, but notable nonetheless. Playing competitive basketball this past week will help that cause.
