Knicks Rumor: Pros and cons of calling up Trey Burke from NBA G League
Pro: Scoring Ability
The New York Knicks have two quality point guards in Jarrett Jack and Frank Ntilikina. For as helpful as those two players have been, neither are known for breaking opponents down and attacking the basket.
If there’s only one area in which Trey Burke can help the Knicks, it’s by holding opposing defenders accountable with his aggressive approach to scoring.
Burke is currently averaging a whopping 27.1 points per game through 25 G League appearances. He’s doing so on an efficient slash line of .493/.414/.831, and is doing so by diversifying his game with a balance of contemporary skills and longstanding value.
Burke is driving and finishing at an elite level, all the while mixing an efficient outside shot with his patented midrange game.
Burke is currently one of three G League players averaging at least 27.0 points per game. It’s worth noting that he’s posting a better field goal percentage than both of the players ahead of him, which contributed to his December Player of the Month award.
Burke isn’t a one-trick pony, but adding a player who can break opposing defenses down and score from all over the floor would fill a void on the roster.
