Pro: Team-First Mentality

Patty Mills is a rugged player with a finesse game and a proven ability to step up in the clutch. That much is appealing, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s the type of player who can help make his teammates better.

Whether or not Mills develops into a high-level facilitator, there’s no denying the fact that he’s a team-first player who

Mills isn’t known to be a great facilitator, but he’s improved his assists per 36 average in five consecutive seasons. In 2016-17, the number jumped to 5.7 assists per 36 minutes—an impressive number considering he committed just 2.1 turnovers per 36.

Mills would have more responsibility with the ball outside of San Antonio, but being a willing passer is the first step in the right direction.

Beyond his individual distribution, Mills has proven to be a player who values team success over individual glory. Considering the theme of 2016-17 was players being out there for themselves, Mills would be a welcome addition.

Coming from the San Antonio Spurs, Mills has the approach and mentality that New York desperately needs at point guard.
