Caleb Swanigan, Purdue Boilermakers

Position: Forward/Center
Age: 20 (4/18/1997)
Height, Weight, Wingspan: 6’8.5″, 246 pounds, 7’3″
2016-17 Slash Line: .527/.447/.781
2016-17 Slash Line: 32.5 MPG, 18.5 PPG, 12.5 RPG, 2.7 ORPG, 3.1 APG, 0.8 BPG, 1.1 3PM

The likelihood of the New York Knicks selecting Caleb Swanigan in the 2017 NBA Draft is relatively slim. If Phil Jackson comes to the conclusion that the Knicks need another big man, however, Swanigan could be an intriguing option.

Swanigan hasn’t shown much on defense, but he’s one of the best rebounders and offensive big men in this draft class.

Swanigan is 6’9″, but he has a powerful frame, a massive wingspan, and tremendous offensive potential. He’s an outstanding passer, a powerful low-post scoring threat, and a capable shooter from 3-point range.

Swanigan has converted 59 3-point field goals over the course of the past two seasons, and averaged an impressive 3.0 assists per game in 2016-17.

Swanigan’s primary appeal here, however, is his ability to dominate the defensive glass. The Knicks have an abundance of offensive rebounders, but there isn’t currently a player who can box opponents out and pull down defensive rebounds.

Swanigan is more than capable of providing that type of impact for the Knicks or whichever team he finds his way onto.
