De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk are polar opposites, yet both Kentucky Wildcats point guards would make sense for the New York Knicks. While Monk is an elite shooter who has underwhelmed as a facilitator, Fox is a poor shooter who has borderline elite court vision.
Though Monk’s scoring ability is intriguing, it’s hard not to be intrigued by what Fox brings to the table as a facilitator.
The Knicks need a player who can set Carmelo Anthony, Willy Hernangomez, and Kristaps Porzingis up, and Fox would fill that role to perfection. His upside lies somewhere in between Jeff Teague and John Wall, and either outcome would be ideal.
Fox may not have the prettiest jump shot, but he’s been more efficient in recent games and is one of the best slashers in this draft class.
Fox’s ability to create penetration and finish at the rim would help New York address the void created by Derrick Rose’s pending free agency. His willingness to facilitate would help Jeff Hornacek run a more efficient offense.
Fox is a somewhat polarizing prospect due to his inefficient jump shot, but he’s a well-rounded performer at a position of dramatic need.
