New York Knicks power forward Kristaps Porzingis hopes to work out with Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki this summer. He should make it a priority to do so.

The New York Knicks are in a position to become one of the true powers of the Eastern Conference. While a number of teams search for a sustainable future, the Knicks have a player who could singlehandedly make the postseason an expectation.

In order for New York to become a postseason mainstay, however, Kristaps Porzingis must tap into his otherworldly potential—a process that could be expedited this summer.

According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, Porzingis is hopeful that Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban will allow him to spend time training with Dirk Nowitzki during the summer of 2017.

"“I’m sure it will help me out and improve my game, hopefully, unless Mark Cuban says no,’’ Porzingis told The Post. “Dirk is a guy who can really help my game. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to work with him, a few days to get on the court with him and pick his brain.”"

Thankfully, Cuban told Berman that it’s, “Up to Dirk.”

At just 21 years of age, Porzingis is already making history. In 2015-16, The Unicorn became the first rookie in NBA history to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 100 blocks, and 100 3-point field goals made.

In 2016-17, Porzingis became the first player in franchise history to amass 100 blocks and 100 3-point field goals made in the same season.

True as that all may be, there’s still room for growth and improvement. He’s made tremendous progress through two NBA seasons, but he may soon be thrust into the role of a No. 1 scoring option for the Knicks.

The question is: why do the New York Knicks need Kristaps Porzingis to schedule a training session with Dirk Nowitzki?
