Few individuals will have as significant of an impact on the New York Knicks’ offseason plans than shooting guard Arron Afflalo. Fresh off of an efficiently productive 2015-16 campaign, Afflalo has an opportunity to become an unrestricted free agent.

With an $8 million player option, Afflalo’s decision will alter the trajectory of the Knicks as an organization.

Afflalo, 30, finished the 2015-16 regular season with averages of 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 3-point field goals made in 33.4 minutes per game. He did so on a slash line of .443/.382/.840.

That isn’t the type of production that many expected from Afflalo, but it’s quite solid for the role New York would like him to play.

If Afflalo were to opt in, the Knicks would have a high-quality shooting guard and $8 million less in cap space. If Afflalo opts out, the Knicks would enter free agency without a single shooting guard on the roster, and an extra $8 million in cap space.

The question is, which situation would be better for the Knicks?.
