The New York Knicks are about to sign Jimmer Fredette to a ten-day contract, and Carmelo Anthony does not seem enthused…

The New York Knicks have one open roster spot, and reports are they expect Jimmer Fredette to fill it with a ten-day contract.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, superstar Carmelo Anthony is not exactly excited about that prospect…

"“Who are we getting? To be honest with you, I haven’t seen Jimmy play in a long time. I’ve been hearing about what’s he’s doing down there in the D-League but I haven’t seen him play in action for a long time.”"

What Fredette has been doing in the D-League is averaging 22.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game with the Westchester Knicks! Recently, Fredette made a impressive impression by scoring 35 points en route to winning the MVP at the NBA Development League All-Star game.

Still… Anthony was not impressed and joked about the reports of signing Fredette…

"Anthony joked with The Post: “I thought you were telling me we were about to sign someone.”"

More from Daily Knicks

Fredette has really bounced around the league since being made the tenth overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. Fredette has been on three different main rosters, the Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, and Chicago Bulls in his NBA career. In those 233 NBA games, Fredette has averaged six points per game on 13.5 minutes a night.

This excerp from Berman’s article though, does not bold well for Fredette…

"However, sources have indicated it’s unclear if Fredette will get time unless he proves himself in practice."

When rumors first surfaced about the possible signing of Fredette, interim head coach Kurt Rambis seemed very skeptical if the college star could make the jump to the big leagues per Marc Berman of the New York Post.

"“He obviously can shoot and that’s what he’s known for,’’“We have to see if he can handle the basketball and be able to crate shots for himself and others within the team concept. It will be an adjustment for him. Guys in the D-League, at that point in time they’re not NBA ballplayers.”“You go through these steps to make it in the NBA. It’s a huge league, guys are much bigger, stronger, longer, quicker, faster. It takes a certain kind of person to play at this level. If you’re missing one of those attributes, it can keep you out of the league. Sometimes it takes players a few years to figure out how to adjust to the game. We’ll see if he made those adjustments.’’"

Rambis also added that the Knicks were looking at multiple players, not just Fredette. So maybe… by Monday, New York could might have signed someone else…

"“There’s players we’ve kept our eye on we might bring in,”“We’re looking at guys who can possibly come in and help us out or take a better look at in practice and see how they fit in with everybody else — whether they play or not.’’"
