Knicks Scouting Toure’ Murry at NBA D-League Showcase

The New York Knicks are Scouting Toure’ Murry for a 10-Day Contract.
According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, the New York Knicks are in Santa Cruz scouting Toure’ Murry during the NBA Development League Showcase games.

If you will recall, the Knicks were the first team to give Murry a chance on their main roster in the 2013-2014 season.

Murry went undrafted in 2012 after four-years in Wichita State, where he had career averages of 11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. The Shocker would play professional basketball overseas in Turkey and Israel before returning to the United States to play in the NBA Development League.
In 2013 Murry finally made it onto a main NBA roster, where he averaged 2.7 points and 1 assists per game in very limited minutes with the Knicks. Murry mostly played during garbage time of blowout games.

In his time as a Knick, Murry has shown flashes of potential. At 6’5″, Murry was a very athletic big guard, showing the ability to defend the ball. Murry showed he had the capability to handle the basketball but nothing spectacular. You would not want Murry to be running the offense for a prolonged period of time, but he could handle himself in short stints. Which is what New York might be looking for.
The biggest hole in Murry’s game was his jump-shot. Murry was very inconsistent from the perimeter. Even with a shortened three-point line in college, Murry only converted on 31.1% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Although it seems like he has worked on improving his three-pointer, shooting 35.1% from downtown this season in the NBA Development League.
Murry is currently averaging 14.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 2 steals per game with the Texas Legends. Murry recently matched his career high in points in the NBA Development League, scoring 24 points on January 2, 2016.
New York has one open roster spot and could sign Murry to a ten-day contract. The point guard position has definitely been a source of problems for the Knicks this season, from the lack of defense from starting point Jose Calderon to the lack of development from rookie Jerian Grant. Also after starting the season on fire, Langston Galloway has dropped off and has not been playing well as consistently.

Although the biggest question mark a Toure’ Murry signing would be, how will this affect Grant’s playing time and development. It will be interesting to see how things play out, that is for sure.
