Amar'e Stoudemire to start at center?

Needless to say the New York Knicks haven’t got their money’s worth out of Amar’e Stoudemire‘s huge contract.

While STAT’s story is a sad one, it looks like his final year in blue and orange has a chance to be a productive one.

It looks like he will be given the opportunity to produce.

According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Knicks may start Stoudemire at center this season.

Kyler wrote:

From what I understand, and I had this conversation today… there is talk that Amar’e could start at the five in most situations, with Bargs at the four, Melo at the three and the camp battle at the two (likely JR Smith) then Jose at the point guard spot.

We’ll see.

Keep in mind the Knicks have Jason Smith and Samuel Dalembert — both of which are serviceable starters at the five and decent defenders. I think Jason Smith is really under rated in this area.

The Knicks have options, and I think you’ll see a different approach from Shumpert and Amar’e.

Anytime you talk about starting Stoudemire and Bargnani for that fact, defense will be questioned.

A frontline that features STAT, Bargs and Anthony is going to have a hard time stopping the opposition, at least on paper. And judging by what we have seen in the past.

Plans can change of course, but at least right now it looks like Stoudemire is going to get the opportunity to finish his Knicks’ career on a high note.

Stoudemire averaged 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 55.7% from the field last season and missed only 17 games, which is a good number for him.

Throughout his career, STAT has averaged 20.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 33.0 minutes per game while shooting 53.5% from the field.
