Knicks Bring On Jim Cleamons as Assistant Coach

Derek Fisher decided to add another member to his coaching staff today bringing on one of Phil Jackson’s cronies, Jim Cleamons. There had been speculation that Cleamons would be brought aboard since Fisher was hired, even some wondered whether he would be viewed as one of Jackson’s head coaching choices.

Cleamons comes with a tremendous amount of coaching experience, working alongside Phil Jackson in both Chicago and Los Angeles. The new Knicks’ assistant understands Jackson’s triangle offense very well and should be able to help Fisher and Jackson bring the right style of play to New York. His most recent coaching stop was in Milwaukee as part of Larry Drew’s staff, but was recently made available after the Bucks hired ex-Knick Jason Kidd.

Jim Cleamons joins Kurt Rambis, Rasheed Hazzard, and Joshua Longstaff as the assistants under first year head coach Derek Fisher.

*Fun Fact: Jim Cleamons spent a year in blue and orange back during the 1977-1978 season.
