NBA Rumors: New York Knicks looking at Jason Smith

While the world awaits free agency decisions on the likes of Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James, the NBA Rumors continue to swirl as teams around the league need to be prepared to add players after the top dominoes falls.

The Knicks are naturally awaiting a decision a decision from Melo, and likely Pau Gasol after that, but they have shown interest in a couple of big guys that they could potentially target with the $3.3 million tax payers MLE so far in Trevor Booker and Josh McRoberts.

The latest big man to catch the Knicks eye appears to be New Orleans Pelicans’ center Jason Smith.

The Colorado State product has proven to be one of the Pelicans more valuable bench pieces the past couple of seasons, but has been hampered by injuries, most notably a shoulder injury in 2013 and a knee injury last season.

When healthy Smith boasted nice averages of 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in just over 26 minutes per night, but he also only shot 46 percent from the floor.

The 28-year old stand 7’0″ tall and weighs 240 pounds and would be a nice addition off the Knicks bench as they are particularly thin at center. However at the end of the day I think there are better options than Smith who the Knicks should target with their MLE.

If he is still there in a couple weeks and the Knicks have struck out on big men so far, then I would turn my attention his way.

I just wouldn’t make it a priority now.
