NBA Rumors: Josh McRoberts drawing Knicks attention

The free agency period is now a couple days old and the NBA Rumors are flowing, except if you’re the New York Knicks as the Knicks only involvement in the early stages of the offseason has been to watch Carmelo Anthony start his free agency tour.

That was to be expected considering the Knicks only have the tax payers MLE to offer potential free agents.

However they have been linked to a couple minor free agents, including Trevor Booker yesterday and now forward Josh McRoberts.

According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com, the Knicks are one of several teams to show early interest in the veteran forward.

Goodman lists the other suitors for McRoberts as:  the Hornets, Blazers, Mavs, Cavs, Heat, Clippers, Spurs, and Lakers.

McRoberts is a useful guy off the bench and could fill a role for the Knicks who have very little toughness, rebounding and defensive ability from most of their forwards.

The 27-year old averaged 8.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game last season for Charlotte.

He has value both as a traditional 4 as well as a stretch 4, which would be big in the triangle offense as he can hit open shots as he is a career 53 percent shooter from the floor and also knocked down 36 percent of his attempts from behind the arc last season.

While he is not a traditional post player, he is a very good passer, something the Knicks would need their big men to be in the triangle. Throw in the fact that he is a tough, hard-nose defender and McRoberts is the type of player that would make some sense for the Knicks.

However at the end of the day there seems to be too much competition for his services and one of the listed teams will likely be able to offer more than the Knicks can.
