New York Knicks Rumors: Golden State Warriors Eyeing Tyson Chandler

New York Knicks team president Phil Jackson is determined to make some changes in the Big Apple and as much as Carmelo Anthony‘s future has been discussed, All-Star center Tyson Chandler‘s future in New York has also been one in question.

Jackson is looking to acquire a first-round draft pick in this year’s draft and packaging Chandler in a deal could be the easiest way to get that done.

With that in mind, the Golden State Warriors could be the first team in line to make their bid for Chandler.

A report came out yesterday that the Warriors are willing to part with forwards David Lee and Harrison Barnes in exchange for Chandler.

I would suggest that Knicks fans not get so excited as that has no chance of happening, not unless Warriors’ general manager Bob Myers is intentionally trying to get himself fired.

The Warriors interest in Chandler makes a lot of sense as does getting rid of Lee’s contract, which has two years and about $30 million left in exchange for Chandler, who is entering the final year of his contract. By doing so the Warriors could be a serious player in the 2015 free agent class.

But ultimately it would be a step backwards for Golden State and they aren’t going to do that and include Barnes in the process.

As for the Knicks, it also doesn’t make much sense taking Lee’s contract back.

The Knicks have made it clear they are looking to add a major free agent or two in 2015 and taking on Lee’s contract would seriously hamper that effort.

As much as I love Lee as a player and would love to see him back in New York, this deal doesn’t make sense for either team.

If Chandler is going to be moved it most certainly would be to get into the draft this year and not take on any salary past this season in return.

That possibly can still happen, but I wouldn’t hold my breath looking for a blockbuster return as it is very unlikely to happen.
