New York Knicks Rumors: Knicks looking for first-round pick?

When the 2014 NBA Draft comes and goes, it may do so without any involvement from the New York Knicks.

However Knicks team president Phil Jackson has been rumored to be looking to change that fact as there have been many reports that he is looking to buy a second-round pick.

But Jackson may not be satisfied with that as he also may be looking to sneak into the first round somehow.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman suggested that Phil Jackson and company might have exactly that in mind, especially after reports suggest that they will work out former University of North Carolina standout P.J. Hairston, who is considered to be a late first-round pick.

Hairston, who was suspended for the entire 2013-14 season, will in town for a private workout with the Knicks on Thursday.

If Jackson were to work a deal to move into the first round of the draft, guys like Tyson Chandler or Iman Shumpert could be on the move, although at this stage it may be doubtful that either guy nets a first rounder in a deal by themselves.

Tim Hardaway Jr. likely could snatch a first round pick in a deal but he should be the only untouchable piece on the current roster.

Another option is if Jackson is convinced that Carmelo Anthony is going to leave and he could work out a sign-and-trade deal to net him a first round selection.

However all of those options seem unlikely at this point.

If anything, Anthony leaving would be the most realistic option.

As for buying a second-round pick, I would keep my eyes on teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks as each has multiple selections in the second round.

The one good thing coming from this is that Jackson realizes he must add good young talent through the draft.

Whether he can accomplish that is a different story altogether.
