The New York Knicks’ pursuit of Steve Kerr has lasted longer than most thought. The two have flirted with one another, first with rumors that Kerr was a candidate for the head coaching job, then through Phil Jackson’s own acknowledgement of his candidacy, then a Jackson-Kerr dinner date, but not much since.
According to Frank Isola, the latest New York Knicks rumors suggest that Kerr and the Knicks are nearing an agreement:
Steve Kerr is inching closer to finalizing a deal to become the next head coach of the Knicks, according to a source close to the TNT broadcaster.
Kerr’s agent, Mike Tannenbaum, is still negotiating with the Knicks but the two sides are optimistic that a deal would be in place early this week. The plan is to have Kerr accompany Knicks president Phil Jackson to Chicago for the NBA Draft combine which begins Thursday.
Kerr has been Jackson’s one and only choice since Jackson agreed to run the Knicks two months ago. Jackson and Kerr met face-to- face in New York two weeks ago and have been in daily contact over the telephone.
