He’s also met with a New York coaching legend.
According to Peter Botte of The New York Daily News, Kerr has also met with Bill Parcells, to get some advice and tips moving forward.
But Kerr, who has never coached in the NBA, has been doing his homework by talking to several heavyweights in the coaching fraternity both in and out of basketball — most notably former Giants and Jets Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells.
It is nice to see that Kerr is taking an apparent move to coaching very seriously.
“We spent a day with coach Parcells,” Kerr’s agent, former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum told Botte. “To Steve’s credit, he flew across the country, went to see him. He spent time with all the great basketball coaches that he’s played for. He has detailed notes with all of them. So whenever he gets his opportunity he can hit the ground running.”
If there was someone to seek advice from about coaching in New York, it likely is Parcells, who won multiple Super Bowls with the New York Giants and even had success with the Jets in the late 90’s.
Botte also notes that Kerr has sought out advice from former Arizona coach Lute Olsen, as well as with Spurs GM R.C. Buford.
