New York Knicks Rumors: Steve Kerr reportedly expects to be Knicks coach

We are just waiting on the day where we are informed that current New York Knicks’ head coach Mike Woodson will be relieved of his duties.

Once that happens, the coaching search can begin, but judging by reports, it likely won’t be much of a lengthy search.

Current TNT basketball analyst Steve Kerr has been linked to the Knicks coaching job almost since the day Phil Jackson came aboard. Sources close to Kerr have said that he is expected to be offered the chance to coach the Knicks and when that offer comes, he will accept it.

The source close to Kerr stated he expects to get the opportunity and is already working behind the scenes with Turner Sports in case an offer comes.

George Willis of the New York Post writes:

According to a source close to the situation, Kerr “absolutely expects” to be offered the job. “And if he’s offered the job he’s definitely going to do it,” the source told The Post.

The Post has learned Kerr has had conversations with his bosses at Turner Sports about adjusting his schedule as an analyst during the upcoming playoffs should he be named the Knicks head coach.

Thanks to his relationship with Jackson, Kerr has been the leading candidate to replace Woodson since Jackson came aboard. This, despite not having any head coaching experience at any level.

Kerr has a good understanding of the game and a good knowledge of the triangle offense.

But you have to wonder how hiring a coach with no coaching experience will impact the free agency decision of superstar Carmelo Anthony.

Either way, it looks like Jackson will address the coaching situation first and Kerr very well could be the guy.
