New York Knicks Rumors: Carmelo Anthony calls future 'Cloudy'

Since they will be spectators for the postseason, priority No. 1 for the New York Knicks is to get Carmelo Anthony‘s name on a long-term contract.

However, while most executives around the NBA feel that is something that will ultimately happen, it’s still something that ‘Melo will not commit to.

Anthony, who is sitting out the rest of the regular season with a torn labrum, recently spoke to the New York Post’s Fred Kerber and didn’t sound like a guy that is ready to commit to the Knicks for the long term.

“It’s hard for me to even think about that,” he said. “It’s hard for me to even think past [the current game] at this point. Everything for me is just cloudy. I’ve never been in this situation before.

“I don’t know what to say about this situation. The only thing for me is to stay positive. … There’s going to be a lot of questions that I have, that I’m going to be asking myself: ‘Why this? Why that?’ I’m pretty sure I won’t find no answers anytime soon.”

The Knicks plan is to re-sign Anthony but there’s no first-round draft pick this June and Anthony also admitted looking through to the 2015 free agent class hardly seems satisfying.

The franchise will already be over the salary cap when the offseason begins, so the improvements that ‘Melo will want to see won’t be coming this summer.

As I touched on yesterday, the Knicks plan on selling Anthony on another losing season next year before trying to load up in 2015.

Judging by his comments and the fact that he missed the playoffs for the first time in his career this season, Anthony doesn’t sound like a guy that is willing to be patient in order to win a championship.

The Knicks do have an advantage of they can offer ‘Melo the most money and not many other teams that would be on Anthony’s small list can afford him.

He also really does want to be in New York.

The only question remaining is if Anthony is willing to be patient with Phil Jackson as things won’t turn around overnight.
