NBA D-League: New York Knicks to get Westchester Affiliate

The New York Knicks’ D-League affiliates, the Erie BayHawks have been busy today. First, they traded the Knicks’ draft signee C.J. Leslie to the Idaho Stampede, thus basically turning Leslie away from the Knicks unless he hits the NBA free agency market.

And then there was some confusing news. It seemed at first that the Erie BayHawks would be moved to Westchester, NY. However, after some further clarification, it seems that there are plans to make a NEW D-League franchsie in Westchester for the Knicks to band up with:

Examples: Landry Fields, Jeremy Lin, Chris Copeland, Tim Hardaway Jr., Jeremy Tyler, and Toure’ Murry. Having an affiliate closer to them — right by their training/practice facility — might increase their ability to find more depth.

It also will help for the Knicks to be able to send players down to the D-League. Players like Lin and now Tyler have benefited from a few weeks hanging in the D-League before coming back up.

Surely the details will become clearer as the plans come together to get this new franchise underway.
