NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Clippers eyeing Metta World Peace

It may not take very long for former New York Knicks forward Metta World Peace to land on his feet.

Sam Amick of USA Today reports that the Los Angeles Clippers have interest in signing MWP as a free agent.

MWP’s buyout from the Knicks became official yesterday, meaning he is free to sign with any team as a free agent.

The Clippers still have a pair of open roster spots after signing Glen Davis yesterday to get back to the league-minimum 13 players. He’d help shore up depth along a front line that lost reserves Antawn Jamison and Byron Mullens at the trade deadline.

MWP has ties to Los Angeles as he spent the past four years with the Lakers and any situation he lands in has to be better than the mess he was in with the Knicks.

However, Amick cautions that it’s not a “slam dunk” that the former Ron Artest will wind up back in L.A. The Clippers would be limited to offering World Peace the minimum salary, something the veteran may not be willing to accept.

First though he must clear waivers.

MWP is set to clear waivers on Wednesday and it is unlikely that any team will submit a waiver claim for the 15-year veteran’s contract, which pays him $1.59 million this season and includes a player option for slightly more next season.

While the Clippers have interest, they don’t appear to be on MWP’s short list.

World Peace is hoping to land with the Thunder, Spurs, or Heat, tweets Chris Broussard of ESPN.com.

MWP has averaged just 4.8 PPG in limited minutes this season.
