New York Knicks Rumors: Knicks to cut ties with Beno Udrih, Metta World Peace

New York Knicks general manager Steve Mills didn’t do anything to help the team at the NBA Trade Deadline, but it looks as if he is trying to cut some dead weight.

According to reports from ESPN’s Ian Begley, the Knicks are close to cutting ties with both point guard Beno Udrih and forward Metta World Peace by buying out both players’ contracts.

MWP, who has appeared in only29 games this season, averaging only 13 minutes per night announced on his Twitter account that the team is working on a buyout with him.

In nine February games, MWP has seen a total of only 15 minutes, including a month high of seven in Friday night’s loss to the Orlando Magic.

Udrih is also being bought out.

Many Knicks fans were excited when the Knicks signed Udrih in the offseason. However he quickly fell in Mike Woodson‘s doghouse as the coach threw him under the bus and blamed him for the Knicks struggles, going as far as blaming Udrih for passing the ball to J.R. Smith on Smith’s idiotic three-point attempt that cost the Knicks a win vs. the Houston Rockets.

Udrih requested a trade shortly after and his request was finally granted.

He averaged 5.6 points and 3.5 assists per game in 31 games played, but was a better option than Raymond Felton, who Woodson continues to give over 30 minutes per game to.

Udrih hasn’t played in 12 games and has seen only 40 total minutes in the last 22 games, 18 of those were DNP’s.

By buying out both guys, the Knicks can add two players to the roster.

There is no speculation on who those guys will be, but judging by Mills’ track record, Chris Smith should stay close to his phone.

After the buyout is official, Udrih and MWP will be free to sign with any team.
