NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks trade Beno Udrih to Nuggets

As expected, the New York Knicks sent backup point guard Beno Udrih packing at the NBA Trade Deadline.

Knicks general manager Steve Mills was awake long enough on Thursday to complete a minor deal that sent the disgruntled Udrih to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for small forward Jordan Hamilton.

Denver was able to send Andre Miller to the Washington Wizards in a three-team trade that paved the way for the Nuggets to acquire the veteran Udrih, something that was expected all day.

Many Knicks fans were excited when the Knicks signed Udrih in the offseason. However he quickly fell in Mike Woodson‘s doghouse as the coach threw him under the bus and blamed him for the Knicks struggles, going as far as blaming Udrih for passing the ball to J.R. Smith on Smith’s idiotic three-point attempt that cost the Knicks a win vs. the Houston rockets.

Udrih requested a trade shortly after and his request was finally granted.

He averaged 5.6 points and 3.5 assists per game in 31 games played, but was a better option than Raymond Felton, who Woodson continues to give over 30 minutes per game to.

Udrih hasn’t played in 11 games and has seen only 40 total minutes in the last 21 games, 17 of those were DNP’s.

As for Hamilton, the Knicks get a former 2011 first-round selection (26th overall by Dallas) out of Texas.

The backup small forward has averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 105 career games. This year he has posted averages of 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 17.2 minutes per night, playing in 39 games on the season.

Hamilton makes about $1.17 million this year, the third season of his rookie scale contract. The Nuggets declined his fourth-year option before the season, so he’ll be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The deal came together from talks the Knicks and Nuggets had about an Iman Shumpert-for-Kenneth Faried swap. Denver resisted that deal, but was apparently more receptive to the swap of the smaller names.

I wouldn’t expect the 23-year old Hamilton to have much of a role with the Knicks.

UPDATE (1:45 pm EST)

Even though the deal has been reported as done, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports puts the brakes on talks of a deal, reporting that the Nuggets are still considering several trades for Hamilton.

UPDATE (1:53 pm EST)

It appears the Udrih deal has fallen through in a matter of minutes after it was reportedly completed.

The Nuggets and Rockets have agreed to send Jordan Hamilton to Houston in exchange for Aaron Brookstweets Shams Charania of The deal comes after it had initially appeared Hamilton would be on his way to the Knicks.
