NBA Trade Rumors: Washington Wizards Still Interested in Beno Udrih

With the NBA trade deadline hitting tomorrow afternoon, the league is in a scramble trying to make last-minute moves before rosters set for the remainder of the season. Currently, NBA trade rumors are flying around in every direction, though it’s hard to tell which of them have any real traction.

The New York Knicks have come up in a couple of them, most recently in a proposal with the Los Angeles Clippers, centered on Darren Collison and Iman Shumpert. According to Ian Begley, the Knicks are still very interested in Kenneth Faried, too.

While those are simply trade rumors and may not result in anything at all, ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that the Washington Wizards still want Beno Udrih. Stein even goes as far as to call it “(reasonably) definite.”

The big question is, if it’s so definite, how come nothing has happened. Beno Udrih supposedly requested a trade in January, and the Wizards have been supposedly interested since then. For a player not getting any burn for the Knicks on a small contract, it shouldn’t be hard to make a deal.

The hold-up is likely what the Knicks are asking for in return, or they’re waiting to see what other offers are out there. If the Wizards are as interested as reports suggest, the Knicks could try and finagle a second-round pick, but Washington might not be so interested. The Wizards’ rookie Glen Rice Jr.’s name has also come up, too, which would be a nice pick-up for the Knicks, although his fit is a little bit questionable.

However, Udrih might be a trade chip the Knicks are holding onto to see how the Shumpert-Collison talks go. In that scenario, the Knicks would likely deal Raymond Felton, too, but reports suggest that the Clippers are more interested in Udrih than Felton. Felton has had a poor season and is signed through 2015, which will make teams hesitant to pick him up now.

The Knicks are likely holding onto their chips and playing their hand as long as they can. But it is quite possible that Udrih could be dealt, perhaps, by tonight or tomorrow morning.
