NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks make one last run at Rajon Rondo

The New York Knicks keep going down swinging in their attempts to acquire an upgrade at the point guard position.

After repeated failed attempts to acquire Toronto’s Kyle Lowry and a failed experiment with Atlanta’s Jeff Teague, it looks like the Knicks are taking one last shot at trying to pry Rajon Rondo away from the Boston Celtics.

According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com., the Knicks are making one last push to acquire Rondo from the Celtics, but they’re convinced it’s a futile attempt even as they do so.

It sounds as if the team is just doing their due diligence to make sure the four-time All-Star is truly out of reach as the trade deadline nears.

Sources tell Sean Deveney of The Sporting News there’s “very little chance” the Celtics find a suitable trade partner for Rondo, and that’s consistent with most reports.

The Celtics are reportedly looking for a young player with All-Star potential plus multiple first-round draft picks for Rondo, which is something the Knicks simply don’t have.

There are rumors surfacing that the Toronto Raptors have entered the Rondo sweepstakes as well but they likely don’t have the assets necessary to make a deal work either.

Rondo has been the Knicks top trade target all along but have failed in each attempt to acquire him and the chances don’t look any better that they will get something done by Thursday’s deadline.
