NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks targeting Glen Rice Jr.

The New York Knicks already have a son of a former NBA great. Now it looks like they are targeting another one.

Earlier in the week I looked at the fact that the Washington Wizards were interested in Knicks point guard Beno Udrih.

According to reports, the Knicks are targeting Glen Rice Jr. in a potential deal.

Marc Berman of the New York Post reports that the Knicks would “love” to acquire Rice Jr. or a second-round pick in return for Udrih.

The Knicks loved the son of the former sharpshooter Glen Rice in the 2013 NBA Draft and would have strongly considered taking him in the first round had Tim Hardaway Jr. not been available.

Rice Jr. has had his problems off the court after being dismissed from his Georgia Tech team in college, but he had a big 2013 season in the D-League and the Wizards nabbed him in the second round of the 2013 Draft.

He hasn’t had much of an impact this season, playing in only 11 games, starting one. He has averaged 2.9 points per game in just over nine minutes per outing. Like his father, the younger Rice can shoot it, but has struggled with his shot in his brief NBA look, connecting only 29.7 percent of the time from the floor and 29.4 percent of the time from behind the arc.

While it is nice that the Knicks would target a young guy like Rice, I have a difficult time seeing the Wizards parting ways with him in exchange for a backup point guard like Udrih who will be a free agent after the season.

It is also worth noting that Berman thinks the veteran journeyman Udrih might end up back in San Antonio before the deadline passes.
