Tim Hardaway Jr. to Play in Rising Stars Challenge

The NBA has begun inviting rookies and sophomore NBA players to the All-Star Weekend’s Rising Stars Challenge. Formerly the rookie-sophomore game, the NBA allows the NBA on TNT crew to select teams they’ll coach from both draft classes.

It was announced today that the New York Knicks’ Tim Hardaway Jr. has been invited and will play!

The Knicks haven’t had any players in the game since 2012 when Jeremy Lin and Landry Fields competed on Team Shaq. Iman Shumpert was passed over in both his rookie and sophomore seasons.

Congrats to Timmy Jr., though. After a sluggish start to the month, Hardaway is starting to come back around. On the Knicks’ current three-game win streak. Hardaway Jr. is averaging 14.6 points per game on 52.7% FG and 54.3% 3FG. For the season, his 8.6 points per game is fourth best among rookies and he’s second amongst rookies in three-point accuracy at 41.4%.

All-Star Weekend has personally turned into a bit of a bore for me in recent years, but it certainly becomes more compelling to watch if the Knicks are being represented.
