NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks don't think Carmelo Anthony will request trade

Entering the season, I feared it would come to this, having to provide a daily update of the future of New York Knicks’ superstar Carmelo Anthony.

But similar to Dwight Howard and LeBron James in previous seasons, that’s the circus that is in front of us.

While the losing has certainly gotten to Melo, apparent by his body language and frustration level, the Knicks don’t feel it has reached a point to where he would force his way out of New York, similar to the way he did out of Denver.

Knicks head coach Mike Woodson recently told Marc Berman of the New York Post:

“Melo I think is on board. I know he’s on board…He’s going to be there to the bitter end if it’s a bitter end. But right now he’s going to be there. I trust he’s going to stay there. We got to make sure everybody else is on board’’

That’s both good news and bad news for the Knicks.

The good news is that at least they feel they will have their best player in uniform for the rest of this disastrous season.

The bad news however is that no one feels that Anthony will return next season and by not trading him at the deadline, they risk losing him for nothing.

It almost would be a blessing in disguise for the Knicks if Anthony were to demand a trade as the Knicks would save some face here and not risk making the wrong decision in the long run.

However it doesn’t look like that will happen and the Knicks will be forced to make a major decision come February 20.

Woodson also added:

“He’s still got a chance to make the playoffs this year. It’s not over with,’’ Woodson said after practice. “You’re sounding like the playoffs start tomorrow and we’re going to be watching it. That’s not the case. Until we’re clearly out of it, Melo should be just fine.’’

I don’t know what player Woodson is talking about but Anthony sounds anything but fine after each and every Knicks loss.
